Let The Demonstration Begin
Have you ever been in a dark place? A place so dark that you questioned whether or not Jesus was real or whether He could hear you or even cared about you? If you answered YES, then you’re in the company of some really great men and women of God. One being John the Baptist.
Even John the Baptist doubted whether or not Jesus was the Messiah. Jesus…the One he spent his life preaching about and preparing for. Yet he still questioned the identity and authority of Jesus.
While John the Baptist was in prison, he sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He was for sure the One that they had been waiting for.
It’s true that in some of the hardest seasons of our lives, when we feel alone, deserted, imprisoned, and hopeless, our soul wants to question who Jesus really is. BUT, I love Jesus’s response. He didn’t get angry or frustrated with them or John the Baptist. He simply demonstrated who He was for them to see and be certain. My favorite part of this is that He didn’t say anything about who He is. Instead, He began to declare who John is! Jesus said that John the Baptist was MORE THAN A PROPHET!
The truth is that when you are in the dark night of the soul, Jesus will demonstrate who He is; all while reminding you of who you are!
You see, John’s identity was found in Jesus’s identity. You’re more than a prophet, John the Baptist, because you were the one born to prepare for My coming. You were the one who lived in the wilderness, living a life that seemed less than, in order to make people ready for Me!
I want to remind you that, no matter how dark it seems right now, Jesus is your light.
Find Him and you will surely find YOU! You will find your answer, your destiny, your victory, your security, your peace…whatever it is you need.
Just like John, Jesus has never forgotten who you were born to be and what you were born to do. He is eager to remind you and let others know who you are, all while demonstrating who He really is in your life. He has never and will never give up on you.
Ask Him to reveal who He really is, and let the demonstration begin!
LUKE 7:18-28 (NKJV)
18 Then the disciples of John reported to him concerning all these things. 19 And John, calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?”
20 When the men had come to Him, they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to You, saying, ‘Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?’ ” 21 And that very hour He cured many of infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight.
22 Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, thelepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them. 23 And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.”
24 When the messengers of John had departed, He began to speak to the multitudes concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 25 But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed those who are gorgeously appareled and live in luxury are in kings’ courts.26 But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. 27 This is he of whom it is written:
‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.’
28 For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
